Last year in February I published an article on “How to Hide Friends on Facebook”
After all those privacy changes that Facebook made in 2012 and now the new Graph Search, I think it’s time to check Facebook privacy settings. It’s very easy to control almost everything on Facebook: what others can see on your profile, what they can share with you, etc. The access to privacy settings is more user-friendly.
How to hide your Friends (list of all your friends) on Facebook:
- 1. go to your Facebook Profile
- 2. click on friends tab next to the “about” section
- 3. click on edit to be able to chance settings. You will see a pop-up box – “Who can see your friends list on your timeline?”
- 4. select the option you want (visibility): Public/Friends/Only Me/Custom (if you want to hide your friends from others choose “Only Me”)
- 5. to make sure that your friends can’t see your Friend’s list (they can only see your mutual friends from your Friends’ list) go to Activity Log and select Friends on the right side bar
- 6. on the top of the page you can see “Who can see your friend list on your timeline?”. Make sure that it is set up the same way as you did in step #4 (Public/Friends/Only Me/Custom). Click on the lock and choose one of the options
That’s it. Make sure to check your Facebook privacy settings from time to time.

KlaudiaJurewicz,
This is helpful information — Especially as we’re gearing up for Facebook Graph Search, and making sure our settings are as we want them to be found (or not found).
Thank you, Klaudia. I will share this with my social circles!

connectyou thank you Keri for your comment! You are absolutely right. The Graph Search might cause some ‘issues’ for some and that’s why is good to check the privacy settings (just in case).
Good stuff, thank you Klaudia!

Hi !
When I try to perform the last step – clicking on FRIENDS I do
Not get the TIMELINE prompt that Klaudia has in her
Last screen shot – I get INCLUDE ALL ACTIVITY – only me
Any hints? Thanks!
Hi ! I can EDIT in the first steps to ONLY ME
However when I go to my ACTIVITY LOG and select FRIENDS
I do not get the prompt for WHO CAN SEE MY FRIENDS ON MY TIMELINE ?
I have a screen print I will try to email you …What displays after I select FRIENDS at the top is INCLUDE ONLY ME ACTIVITY – which is locked to ONLY ME
I must have another setting that is not allowing the FRIENDS in the activity log to not display the same option/verbage to display the same prompt? Thank you almost there!

This doesnt work anymore!!! PLEASE RE-UPDATE!!.. There is no longer an edit button with a pencil just a pencil button!! and it doesnt allow you to set “who can see your friend list on your timeline” just who can see your friends…. Well i set it to only myself and it still allows people under my restricted list to see my friends!! I have set everything to just me and still allows everyone to see my friends unless its public… then its hidden.. i have tried all settings!!
RyanGetz Thank you Ryan for your comment. I’m going to get back to this setting after I test the new look of Facebook News Feed 🙂
RyanGetz I agree
This is crazy !
Klaudia and I spent so much time trying to figure this out –
She is awesome ! I set everything to ONLY ME but when I do VIEW AS
people can see all my friends – I would settle for just MUTUAL and only
have those friends appear but it’s not working for me..
Will keep in touch to get this resolved!
Gatorsfl2 RyanGetz Thank you for sharing your Facebook experience.
Hello ! Any success ?
My friends list is also set to ONLY ME but when i view as friends they can all see it. I have deactivated my account untill it is sorted!
I think the solution for ur problem is right here in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzHufaYnqAs
desousam02 thank you so much for sharing
plzzz tell me about hide mutul friends??
AmmMaar so far there is no way to hide your mutual friends from your friends who have other friends in common with you.
