Let’s talk about new trend: live-video-stream mobile applications. Ok, so maybe it’s not so new, we have seen live-streaming video applications available online for years but this time…this time it’s different. Now live-streaming got into the mainstream where everyone easily can use it.
Meerkat and Periscope, those are two video live-stream mobile applications that took over the internet within last two weeks. Meerkat had a better timing (they had their big launch during the #sxsw15 ) but Periscope belongs to Twitter now so I guess we are going to see and hear more about those two.
What’s interesting about it:
- Thanks to those two mobile applications live-video-streaming becomes very simple, all you have to do is to download the application and begin live-stream what you see, that’s it.)
- We’ve got a proof that our mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) can handle live-video-stream without bigger problems.
- Meerkat and Periscope are connected via Twitter which means bigger access to the community (Twitter users.)
- It might be the answer to FOMO (fear of missing out) for some people. Which means that now when everyone can live-stream from anywhere, you have access to it no matter where you are.
- I think we are going to see more live-streaming tools in the near future.
- Now it’s time for mobile providers to figure out new data-plans. Video live-streaming “eats” so much data, so if you are on WiFi it’s ok but when on LTE wow!
It doesn’t matter whether Meerkat or Periscope survive or not. Those applications are in the early stage so everything is possible. It seems that picture is not enough anymore and users need more…maybe live-streaming is the answer.
