It’s time! Your old computer is not as fast as it used to be and you decided you need to buy a new device. The problem is, what should it be? Desktop, laptop or maybe a tablet?
It’s not easy to make the decision because it’s almost like comparing apples to pears. It’s hard. But what you can try is to think about your habits, the way you want or already use your computer.
1st step: Ask yourself few questions:
- Do I want to use this computer only at home?
- Do I travel a lot and do I want to use this device while travel?
- How big the screen should be?
- Am I going to type a lot or it’s more for browsing the internet, checking emails, etc.?
- Anything else?
2nd step: Ask others:
- What do they like about their desktop computer laptop or tablet?
- Why do they decide to choose that one and not the other?
- How do they use it?
- What is that they don’t like about the device they have?
- Check the brand (HP, DELL, Apple, Samsung, etc.)
- What’s the battery life?
- Are they happy with the customer service?
Now it’s time for…
3rd step: “Test Drive”
- If you can ask your friends/family members to test their desktop, laptop or tablet or at least show you how they use it.
- In case of laptop and tablet check the size and weight.
- Go to the store and check those devices there (before you buy it)
- Take notes: pros vs. cons. That can help you to make the decision.
- In case of laptop and tablet try to test those in different locations: outdoors, etc.
Switching from desktop computer to laptop or tablet it’s a new experience and you might not feel very comfortable with it at the beginning. Don’t give up, just try. If you are afraid that it’s going to be uncomfortable to write email on tablet – you can always get a Bluetooth keyboard. And if you are not sure how much you are going to like smaller screen (laptop and tablet) – in most cases you can connect those wirelessly to the TV. As you can see there are different tech-options you can choose to help yourself.
Great article! I love when tech savvy people put technical information in terms that the average person can digest.
